2017 Indiana Civic Health Index Report Released

Tuesday, October 24, 2017

Former U.S. Rep. Lee H. Hamilton and former Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard released the 2017 Indiana Civic Health Index report on Tuesday in Indianapolis.

The report shows how actively Hoosiers engage in community activities such as voting and volunteerism, and in family activities such as dining together. It measures how much confidence the public has in institutions such as the media and schools, and it helps identify obstacles that prevent citizens from getting involved in decision making for their communities. The report also details how Indiana compares to other states in various measurements of civic health.

This is the third Indiana Civic Health Index; previous reports were issued in 2011 and 2015.

The full 2017 report is available here. Project sponsors are the Indiana Bar Foundation, the Indiana Supreme Court, the Indiana University Center on Representative Government, Indiana University Northwest, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, the Indiana University Center for Civic Literacy, and the National Conference on Citizenship.
