The IU Center on Representative Government congratulates two outstanding Hoosier educators for leading their student teams to excel at the recent We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution competition for Indiana high schools.

First place went to the student team from Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, coached by Jill Baisinger. She was a 2015 winner of the American Civic Education Teacher Award, sponsored by the IU Center, the Center for Civic Education, and the National Education Association.

Second place in the Indiana We the People competition went to the student team from Plainfield High School, coached by Chris Cavanaugh. He was a 2006 ACETA winner.

Both Cavanaugh and Baisinger have served as resource development advisors to the IU Center.

The goal of the We the People program is to promote civic competence and responsibility among students in the nation’s secondary schools. The administrator for the Hoosier program is the Indiana Bar Foundation.
